I had the pleasure of being part of a great conversation about social media on KAOI Radio with Koa Chang and Pomai Weigert with Ali‘i Kula Lavender, on a show called “Maui Talks Business” hosted this week by Jeanne Skog, President and CEO of the Maui Economic Development Board (MEDB.) We covered many key topics in social media, including the impact it has had on local businesses like Ali‘i Kula Lavender, and how immediate it can be.
One of our examples was the inaugural Kupu Maui pop-up restaurant event at Ali‘i Kula Lavender last Saturday, which I couldn’t attend because I was teaching my Social Media Bootcamp at MEDB, but I was able to share with the class remotely by displaying tweets using the #kupumaui hashtag as a virtual magazine being built live on Flipboard with my screen-projected iPad.
During that discussion, Dania Katz of Edible Hawaiian Islands, one of the founders of Kupu Maui, tweeted that her ears were burning and wanted to call in, so we gave her the phone number on the air and had a great conversation about how she has seen social media make an impact on Maui businesses.
